Filipino singer Sofronio Vasquez has just won this year’s season of The Voice USA.

Mentored by world-renowned balladeer Michael Bublé, Vasquez has made history as the first-ever Filipino and Asian to win the prestigious talent show in its twenty-six-season history. Born in Misamis Oriental, the singer was a dental hygienist and a previous participant in other Filipino competitions, such as It’s Showtime‘s Tawag ng Tanghalan and even The Voice Philippines.

“Your mentorship is a blessing to me, my family and to all the dreamers out there. You have opened up so many doors,” Vasquez said to his coach just moments before his win. Touched, Bublé told Vasquez, “It’s an unbelievable journey to be here with you.”

Taking to social media almost immediately upon winning the contest, Vasquez posted a photo together with Bublé with the caption: “Dreams really do come true.” He soon followed it up with a solo post of him, adding another caption that said, “Believe that you can, and manifest it with your whole heart.”

For his finale performance, he performed “A Million Dreams” from the popular musical The Greatest Showman, which then solidified his place as the grand winner of the show. With his historic victory, Vasquez is set to be awarded US$100,000 (approximately Php 5.8 million) in prize money, alongside a record deal with Universal Music Group.

Prior to his appearance on The Voice, Vasquez had also released a number of singles as an independent artist in 2022, which include “Mahalaga,” “Bililihon,” and “Shine.”
