Denise Julia is back with a personal new single, “2GOOD4U,” accompanied by a visualizer that underscores themes of self-worth and healing.
Released on April 29, the music video centers on the R&B singer’s moments of self-care — scenes of her relaxing in a bathtub, lying in bed, and spending time with friends. These are intercut with flashes of a seemingly toxic relationship, building toward a turning point where she ultimately walks away from her partner and chooses herself.
“2GOOD4U” dropped April 9 under 2nd Floor Entertainment, marking Denise Julia’s first release since her 2024 EP Sweet Nothings (Chapter 2). On Instagram, the 24-year-old artist explained the long gap between releases as stemming from a difficult period in her life.
“While I was battling three diagnoses, I disappeared for a while and moved to the states alone. Went through a period of adjustment that challenged me more than I expected,” she wrote, describing an isolating transition that pushed her to withdraw from the spotlight.
Despite the challenges, Denise Julia found her way back to music and herself. Calling the new track a fresh beginning, she wrote, “This is for anyone who forgot their worth in places that never knew how to hold them. You’re too good to stay in places where there’s no growth.”
Her previous projects include Sweet Nothings (Chapter 1), featuring “B.A.D.,” “Lackin’,” and “Sugar N’ Spice,” and Chapter 2 with tracks like “bet,” “twin flames,” and “better than he does.” Gaining significant traction online, her music videos for “B.A.D.” and “better than he does” resonate widely with fans, boosted by appearances from Filipina drag queens Marina Summers and M1ss Jade So.
Denise Julia has since been dubbed the “Patron Saint of Situationships,” a title earned through her relatable tracks about complicated, undefined relationships, striking a chord with listeners navigating similar experiences.
