The beloved indie-folk pop musician has just dropped the highly anticipated deluxe edition of her sophomore album, befriending my tears (and then some).
In this fresh edition of her 2023 record, Clara Benin introduces two new tracks, five remixes, two live recordings, and a fan-favorite early demo. Of the two new songs, Benin previously released “hiding in the bathroom” last November 15.
The deluxe album, rather than just a fresh piece of work, is a deeply contemplative and introspective as it spells into themes of vulnerability and self-discovery. Her newest original song for the rerelease is titled “all I do is cry.”
In an official press release, Clara Benin detailed her process: “The process of making befriending my tears helped me understand myself more. With these new songs, I wanted to lean into that same honesty — embracing vulnerability and learning how to sit with discomfort. It’s about letting go of any shame around our feelings, no matter how messy they might be.”
The singer-songwriter also opened up about exposing her vulnerabilities on the album: “This deluxe version gave me the opportunity to explore the more nuanced aspects of music production — whether it’s about satisfying my curiosity with different sonic textures, reworking instrumental arrangements, or experimenting with vocal harmonies. I wanted to create something immersive, something that resonates both on record and in a live setting.”
