Chappell Roan has launched The Midwest Princess Project, a new initiative dedicated to providing support and resources for transgender youth and LGBTQIA+ communities.
On Instagram, the “Good Luck, Babe!” singer announced the initiative, sharing that it has already raised over USD 400,000 from ticket sales for her ‘Visions and Damsels & Other Dangerous Things‘ pop-up shows. “These funds will be donated to incredible organizations making a positive impact for trans youth in their communities,” she wrote.
With fiscal support from the Catalyst Philanthropy Fund, ticket proceeds from shows in New York, Los Angeles, and Kansas City, Missouri, will benefit various organizations. These include the Ali Forney Center and The LGBT Center in New York; the Trans Wellness Center and TransLatin@ Coalition in Los Angeles; and The GLO Center and The Center Project in Missouri.
After covering basic costs like transaction fees and project management, the initiative makes sure every dollar goes directly to the organizations in need of support.
Earlier this year at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, where she won the Best New Artist Award, Roan shared her advocacy with GLAAD (the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) and highlighted the resilience of the community. “It’s brutal right now, but trans people have always existed and they will forever exist,” she said. “They will never, no matter what happens, take trans joy away, and that has to be protected more than anything.”
The initiative takes its name from Roan’s 2023 debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, which reflects her Midwestern roots and celebrates queer themes, self-expression, and identity.
