The Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) announced last October 22 that they will be adapting Cathy Garcia-Molina’s One More Chance for the stage. Folk pop band Ben&Ben performed a surprise number during the closing night of PETA’s Walang Aray and announced that their music will serve as the soundtrack of the upcoming musical.
The band performed “Kathang Isip” and “Araw-Araw” during the curtain call of Walang Aray. After the performance, the theatre company announced that One More Chance (the musical) will open on April 2024 at the PETA Theater Center in Quezon City.
PETA’s re-run of Walang Aray ran from October 6 to 22 at the PETA Theater Center. It was awarded the 2023 Gawad Buhay! Award Mid-year Citation for Outstanding Musical. The musical is an adaptation of Severino Reyes’ classic zarzuela, Walang Sugat. Numerous Filipino musicians dropped by to watch the show, such as P-pop groups BGYO, BINI, artists like Bullet Dumas, and more.
One More Chance was originally released under Star Cinema in 2007. The movie starred John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo as the film’s main characters, the two playing Popoy and Basha. One More Chance tells the story of the couple navigating their breakup and eventually starting over again a few years later. It won nine awards, including Movie of the Year at the 24th Philippine Movie Press Club Star Awards for Movies.
More details about the musical have yet to be announced. Watch this space for updates.
In other news, Ben&Ben recently released an acoustic version of their song, “Courage.” One of the band’s frontmen, Paolo Benjamin, collaborate with Juan Karlos on the latter’s latest album, Sad Songs And Bullshit Part 1.
