Singer-songwriter Barbie Almalbis has released her newest single titled “Wicked Heart.”
In a press statement, Almalbis shared, “I was thinking about how following your heart can lead to trouble sometimes. I want to follow my heart, but it’s always changing its mind. It’s definitely something I’ve personally been through, but it also takes inspiration from the verse in Jeremiah 17:9: ‘The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked: who can know it?’”
She continued, “‘Wicked Heart’ also presents the rhetoric that while our desires and emotions are a beautiful part of who we are and how we experience life, there must be something ‘truer’ than the heart.”
The track was written and produced by Almalbis, with mixing by Jorel Corpus and mastering by Jett Galindo. “Wicked Heart” follows her collaboration with Kitchie Nadal, Aia de Leon, Acel Bisa, Lougee Basabas-Alejandro, and Hannah Romawac titled “TALINGHAGA.” This is her sixth release this year after not releasing anything since 2021.
Earlier this year, the musician released a vinyl pressing of her debut album Parade via vinyl production joint Backspacer Records. The record was priced at P2,100 and is currently sold out. Almalbis also recently celebrated her 25th anniversary in the music industry with a concert titled Firewoman. She reunited with her former bandmates in Hungry Young Poets and Barbie’s Cradle for the event.
In November last year, she teamed up with Aia de Leon, Kitchie Nadal, Acel Bisa, Hannah Romawac and Lougee Basabas-Alejandro for a one-of-a-kind joint concert titled Tanaw at The Theatre in Solaire, Parañaque City.
