Billboard Philippines is showcasing P-pop to the world with SB19 and BINI.
In an announcement made today (August 23, 2024), Billboard Philippines confirmed that they have chosen P-pop powerhouses SB19 and BINI to represent the Philippines at Billboard Korea‘s ‘Billboard K POWER 100’. The two groups — who will be the only Filipino artists attending the coveted event — will not only perform live but also receive a special award that celebrates their fast-growing influence and popularity across the world and that recognizes their continuous efforts to spotlight P-pop on a global scale.
As we gear up to see SB19 and BINI represent P-pop and the Philippines loud and proud in Seoul, here’s everything you need to know about Billboard Korea’s ‘Billboard K POWER 100’.
What is ‘Billboard K POWER 100’?
Billboard K POWER 100 comes as the Korean iteration of Billboard‘s yearly POWER 100, an annual event that is meant to honor and celebrate the most influential figures in music. Billboard K POWER 100 aims to “highlight the influence of Korean music, particularly K-pop, on the global music industry,” according to an official press release. While the event’s primary focus is to celebrate Korean music, Billboard K POWER 100 will also spotlight the greater Asian music industry, honoring select artists and figures who have made significant strides in their respective countries.
The event also coincides with Billboard Korea‘s official launch following their initial announcement last March. To commemorate the special occasion, Billboard Korea is also launching a special bilingual print issue titled ‘K-Pop Artist Biographical Dictionary’, which showcases Korean artists who have significant impact on the global music market throughout the last year.
When is ‘Billboard K POWER 100’?
Billboard K POWER 100 will be happening this August 27, 2024 at at the Yeong Bin Gwan Hall of THE SHILLA Seoul. The event will see dozens of artists in attendance, including some of today’s biggest K-pop stars — and of course, the Philippines’ very own SB19 and BINI.
