Billboard Philippines Women in Music Rising Star awardees BINI join this week’s episode of Billboard Philippines Volumes, where they go behind the scenes of how they make every show-stopping performance and what we can expect from the group.

The now video and podcast show premiered on Spotify and Facebook on March 27. The episode, hosted by Ingrid Marie, is a backstage pass to BINI’s pre-show rituals, memorable moments, and how they feel about their career so far. When the group was first formed in 2019 as part of ABS-CBN’s Star Hunt Academy, they trained and lived together until 2022. Since then, they have gone on to release viral hits like “Pantropiko,” “Salamin Salamin” (Mirror Mirror). Now, they’re Spotify’s most streamed P-pop group.

“It’s overwhelming and honestly, we still haven’t really processed it,” Mikha shares, when talking about the recent successes they’ve had as a group. “Because we still think we’re normal and kalog sila (weird), usually…We never really thought that it would happen now. It was always a ‘what if’ thought in our minds.”

Known for their synchronized performances and catchy choreography, the eight-piece group revealed during the episode how they prepare for a performance.

“30 minutes before performance, we make sure na naghuhuddle na kami, nagwawarm up na kami, nagvovocalize na kami…mahirap po kasi sumayaw, and usually first song namin [very] power song, power dance talaga,” Jhoanna explains.

(30 minutes before the performance, we make sure that we huddle, warm up, vocalize…it’s hard to dance, and usually our first song is a very power song, power dance.)

Jhoanna goes on to say that the most important part of their ritual is the pre-show prayer, after which Coach Mickey Perz gives a pep talk for every performance. “Na parang maiiyak ka nalang! May sinasabi ni Coach Mickey ng advice na parang, ‘girls…this is…’,” Jhoanna says with a laugh.

([The pep talks] are so emotional! Coach Mickey gives advice [in a serious tone] like, ‘girls…this is…’.)

Mikha then shares that the last pep talk they had was before their University of Santo Tomas Paskuhan concert last year. “It [was] our last performance of the year, and the crowd was crazy.”
