BINI, the nation’s girl group, have graced the Billboard Philippines Soundwave stage with a performance of their latest trending hit, “Pantropiko.”
The performance – where they were dressed by H&M Philippines — comes after Jikamarie’s rendition of “Hinahanap-hanap” (Looking For) on the platform last week. Soundwave is the platform’s TikTok-exclusive show that showcases the rising and trending songs in today’s music industry. “Pantropiko” was originally released in November of last year, but has recently made waves on TikTok, with acts like Ben&Ben’s Paolo Benjamin, fellow P-pop groups VXON, G22, and even ABS-CBN journalist Jeff Canoy.
“Pantropiko” followed the release of “Karera” last year, which was named as one of Billboard Philippines’ Top 25 songs of 2023.
Recently, they announced that they will be premiering their debut EP titled Talaarawan (Diary). It was first teased earlier this year, when the BINI account tweeted that the EP will come out very soon. In an exclusive interview with Billboard Philippines, member Colet went behind the scenes of “Pantropiko” and their EP.
“Actually, aside from “Karera,” ‘yung “Pantropiko” hindi talaga nawala sa listahan namin — parang Top 2 siya — sa lahat ng listening sessions namin,” she shared. “Lahat kami nag-pursigi to learn the song, to practice…lahat kami gustong-gusto mag-practice at ilabas ‘yung best output para sa BLOOMS namin, kasi antagal na nila naghintay. Lahat kami involved, lahat hands-on, lahat may contribution lalo na sa EP na ire-release namin.”
(Actually, aside from “Karera,” “Pantropiko” never left our list — it was part of the Top 2 — in all of our listening sessions. We really worked hard to learn the song, to practice…we all wanted to practice and make the best output for our BLOOMS, because they waited so long for us [to come back]. We were all involved, all hands-on, everyone contributed, especially for the EP we’re going to release.)
