Former Momoland member Nancy McDonie is the latest international talent to join GMA’s talent agency, Sparkle.
In a Facebook post uploaded by the agency, they wrote, “Sparkle proudly welcomes its new international star, Nancy McDonie, to its diverse and stellar roster of talents. Get ready to witness her journey as she shines among the brightest stars in the industry! Welcome to Sparkle, Nancy!”
She is the second K-pop idol to join the agency. In November 2022, they announced that Chanty of Lapillus (born as Maria Chantal Videla) joined their roster as well. Chanty was a former actress under Star Magic.
Momoland is best known for their hits “Bboom Bboom,” “BAAM,” and “Wrap Me Up In Plastic.” Their last release was “Yummy Yummy Love,” which dropped in 2022. The group was formed in 2016 under MLD Entertainment through a survival show titled Finding Momoland. She was part of the group’s original members. Joining her in the original lineup are fellow idols Hyebin, Yeonwoo, Jane, Nayun, JooE, and Ahin. In 2019, the group and MLD Entertainment signed a co-management deal with ABS-CBN Entertainment. They eventually disbanded in 2023.
No news has been announced regarding her future engagements with GMA Sparkle.
In other news, last year marked a historic year as different Filipino talents secured spots in international K-Pop groups. Sophia Laforteza became a top contender on HYBE and Geffen Records’ The Debut: Dream Academy. She is set to make her debut in the group sometime soon, becoming the first Filipino artist under HYBE. In a previous interview with Billboard Philippines, she shared, “I think the first thing that came to my head when we were told that we were finally going to be introduced to the world was just how proud I was to represent the Philippines. I was going up to the rest of the girls and I was like, I’m so excited for the Philippines to see me.”
