Wolfgang’s frontman, Basti Artadi, spoke out against the upcoming vinyl reissue of their self-titled album Wolfgang.
The 47-year-old musician posted his thoughts on his official social media platforms, musing on about the unjust royalties that he and the rest of the band will be receiving from the reissue. “They (the producers) will “pay” the band Php 2.40 per Php 1,900 record. Php 2.40 that Manuel (Legarda), Wolf (Gemora), myself, and Mon (Legaspi)’s kids will have to split between each other,” he says.
Artadi adds, “That means if the record company makes 1,900,000 pesos of album sales, Wolfgang [only] gets 600 pesos each. [It’s] 2024 and this is the type of stuff that still goes on today when honestly there is enough to go around if people weren’t so greedy.” Given the situation, he further teases the band’s own plans to reissue the album themselves for its 30th anniversary. “I have plans, if you can wait, I will make it worth your while and the band would appreciate it because we will finally get paid for fighting to put that album out,” he concludes.
Just recently, Wolfgang partnered with Backspacer Records earlier this year to release a limited edition pressing of their Acoustica show at the Music Museum in September of 2000. Although it’s currently sold out, the Acoustica vinyl was divided into two standard black discs and includes bonus inserts along with a printed inner sleeve, with its music remastered for the vinyl format by Shinji Tanaka.
Wolfgang’s eponymous album is currently for pre-order via Vicor Music for Php 1,900, and is expected to be released in the fourth quarter of 2024.
