This week, Rico Blanco has officially gained his first entry on the Billboard Philippines Top Philippine Songs chart.

On December 18, 2024, Billboard Philippines revealed its chart rankings for the week of December 21, 2024. On the Billboard Philippines Top Philippine Songs, a smashing debut comes in the form of Rico Blanco’s “You’ll Be Safe Here” — the OPM rock icon’s 2023 rendition of the Rivermaya classic — as it enters the chart at No. 6. It serves as Blanco’s first-ever entry on the all-Filipino music chart and is the only other new entry this week, alongside Hale’s “The Day You Said Goodnight.”

Notably. the nostalgic track, which explores the idea of being a place of solace and refuge for the person you love, also ranks significantly on Billboard Philippines‘ Hot 100 chart, making a massive jump from No. 72 last week to No. 16 this week. This marks its highest ranking so far on the chart.

“You’ll Be Safe Here” was originally released by Rivermaya in 2005, serving as as the theme song of the horror-drama television series Spirits before being included in their 2005 EP, You’ll Be Safe Here. It would go on to become one of Rivermaya’s most popular songs of all time and served as one of the last original songs recorded by Blanco as the band’s frontman before his departure in 2007.

For the rest of the Top Philippine Songs chart’s top 10 this week, Dionela continues to have the most entries, with “Marilag” maintaining its hold on the No. 1 spot, while “sining” (with R&B icon Jay R) and “Oksihina” sit at No. 3 and No. 5 respectively. Meanwhile, TJ Monterde and KZ Tandingan hold onto the No. 2 spot with the heartfelt “Palagi.”

In addition, Cup of Joe and Arthur Nery round off the top 10 this week with two songs each. Cup of Joe’s “Tingin” with Janine Teñoso is at No. 8 while “Misteryoso” maintains a hold on the No. 10 spot. Meanwhile, Nery’s “TAKE ALL THE LOVE” remains at No. 7 while “Isa Lang” moves to No. 9.
