After nearly two years of conflict, the United Nations has finally declared that Israel has committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. According to an article written by David Gritten and Imogen Foulkes for the BBC, “At least 64,964 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza since then (October 2023), according to the territory’s Hamas-run health ministry, whose figures are seen as reliable by the UN.” With this, global outrage towards this conflict has been pouring out, and communities have gathered together to support Palestine.
On that note, Philippine artists have rallied together to create the collective Filipino Artists for Aid. Curating special events and kickstarting fundraisers for the victims of this conflict, these artists have taken a stand in solidarity of the Palestinians in Gaza. As a whole, they contribute to The Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, whose main objective “is to identify and treat every child in the Middle East in need of specialized surgery not available to them locally. We locate, sponsor and run international, volunteer medical missions to the Middle East, in additional to locating free medical care abroad for children who cannot be adequately treated in the Middle East.”
The group’s activities were initially kicked off last September 12, where artists Kenaniah, Sugarcane, Syd Hartha, and Shirebound performed a benefit concert at JessxPat’s, with all the proceeds being directly donated to the children in Gaza. In the second iteration of this concert (also at JessxPat’s) Alisson Shore, SHNTI, and Kiyo took the stage in support of this movement.
Tonight (September 18, 2025), Toneejay, Irrevocable, Shockpoint, MATOKI, Jadefake, Gibraltar, and A Piloto are going to set the stage at Mow’s Bar, Matalino Street, with entrance at Php. 250. As a benefit show, the proceeds will be going towards the Gazans in Cavite.
This movement was spurred by folk singer-songwriter Toneejay’s initial public address on Instagram, where he said, “By now, you’ve probably read stories I’ve posted here on IG calling for the OPM industry to break its silence on Gaza… You have been given a platform, a chance to speak to society and point it towards a more humane future.”
