Filipina hip-hop artist Zae revealed that her 2021 hit song “Baddest MF (BMF)” was included in the soundtrack for the Netflix series, The Gentlemen.

In a TikTok video uploaded by the rapper on March 7, she shot a snippet of her song being used in the background in the show’s third episode. She captioned the video with, “Guys! My song, ‘Baddest MF (BMF)’ made it to The Gentlemen on Netflix. Women’s history month slay alert!” In the Instagram version of the video, she added, “This is [a big deal], Filipino hip-hop music (lokal rap) playing a part in an International TV series, once again! Reppin’ the morenas worldwide, baby.”

The Gentlemen follows the story of newly-appointed Duke of Halstead Eddie Halstead (played by Theo James, best known for his role as Tobias Eaton in The Divergent trilogy), who unexpectedly inherited an estate of 15,000 acres from his recently deceased father. However, trouble erupts when he learns that the land has become part of a marijuana empire run by their kingpin Bobby Glass (played by Ray Winstone). The show follows Halstead as he interacts with different shady characters while also trying to protect his newfound home and stay alive in the process.

The show premiered on the streaming platform on March 7. It currently has one season and eight episodes. The Gentlemen is a spin-off on director Guy Richie’s 2019 film of the same name. The original movie starred Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Michelle Dockery, Jeremy Strong, Eddie Marsan, Colin Farrell, and Hugh Grant.

In other news, pop-R&B duo Leanne & Naara created the soundtrack for Replacing Chef Chico, the first-locally produced Netflix series. When asked about what it felt like to have their songs in a Netflix original, the duo shared to Billboard Philippines, “We were in a constant state of disbelief and kilig. It made us giddy. We had this big smile on our faces. And we also cried, a lot. They touched on so many issues that hit close to home. We love that it centers on feminist stories and deals with all kinds of empowerment, such as LGBTQIA rights. The songs were so beautifully tied with the stories. It was a pleasant surprise every time the songs would come on because we’d also get lost just watching the show. We both finished it in one sitting!”

The Gentlemen is now available for streaming on Netflix.
