The 2025 Awards Season for film kicks off to a great start with this year’s Golden Globe Award winners.

This year’s iteration of one of the season’s buzziest awards shows honored some of the best contributions to film and television over the past year — including the works of several popular musicians.

One of the night’s biggest wins came with Jon M. Chu’s beloved adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked, which took home the award of Cinematic and Box Office Achievement as the first winner of the brand-new category.

Aside from Wicked, fellow musical Emilia Perez dominated this year’s awards show with a total of four wins throughout the night, including nods for Best International Film, Best Film (Musical or Comedy), Best Original Song for “El Mal”, and Best Supporting Actress In A Motion Picture for Zoe Saldana — with the latter beating out Ariana Grande, who served as one of the frontrunners in the same category.

However, for the highly-coveted Best Original Score award, Nine Inch Nails’ frontmen Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross took home the trophy for their work on Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers — marking their third win in the category, following their work on David Fincher’s The Social Network last 2011 and Pixar’s Soul in 2020.

Notable wins throughout the night include several wins for A24’s The Brutalist and FX’s network series Shogun, with the former earning a total of three awards –– such as Best Film (Drama), Best Actor In A Motion Picture (Drama) for Adrien Brody, and Best Director for Brady Corbet. On the other hand, Shogun was awarded four awards, inclusive of Best Television Show (Drama), Best Actor In A Television Series (Drama) for Hiroyuki Sanada, Best Actress In A Television Series (Drama) for Anna Sawai, and Best Supporting Actor – Series, Miniseries or Television Film for Tadanobu Asano.

For the other film awards, Demi Moore was awarded Best Actress In A Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) for her work on the horror satire The Substance, while Brazilian actress Fernanda Torres won the drama-adjacent award for her performance in the biographical drama I’m Still Here. Sebastian Stan of Marvel fame also won Best Actor In A Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) for A Different Man, while Kieran Culkin took home the trophy for Best Supporting Actor In A Motion Picture for A Real Pain.

On the television front, HBO’s Hacks takes home the award for Best Television Series (Musical or Comedy), with its lead actress Jean Smart also winning Best Actress for her work on the show. The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White wins for Best Actor In A Television Series (Musical or Comedy), while other supporting wins for television performances include Jessica Gunning’s work on Baby Reindeer –– which also won Best Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television. For the latter, Colin Farrell takes home Best Actor in A Limited Series for his work on HBO’s The Penguin, while Jodie Foster also won the actress-adjacent award as the lead to HBO’s fourth season of True Detective.
