Pearl Jam has just released a collection of songs that act as a tie-in to HBO’s hit television series The Last of Us and the acclaimed video game series.
The four-track extended play (EP), aptly titled The Last of Us, includes the original studio version of “Future Days,” from their 2013 album Lightning Bolt. The EP also includes “All or None” from 2002’s Riot Act, a live version of “Future Days” recorded at the 2024 Ohana Festival, and a reimagined version of their song “Present Tense” from 1996’s No Code, titled “Present Tense (Redux).”
For the second season of The Last of Us on HBO, “Future Days” also serves as the title of the first episode of the second season and was featured in an integral emotional scene from 2020’s The Last of Us Part II. In the fifth episode of season 2, Ellie (Bella Ramsey) also sings the first line of the song with a guitar inside a theater in Seattle. This scene specifically mirrors an important scene from the video game sequel, where Joel plays the full song for Ellie in a flashback.
Pearl Jam are currently embarking on their Dark Matter World Tour in support of their 12th studio album, Dark Matter, with dates across Europe, North America, and Oceania.
Meanwhile, the second season of The Last of Us is currently airing, with the 7th and final episode set to air on May 26 (PH Time).
