Fifteen years after the release of Tron: Legacy, we are ready to witness light cycle battles beyond the Grid. Disney’s Tron: Ares drops its first trailer, featuring a score from Nine Inch Nails‘ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
The film’s predecessor, the modern cult classic Tron: Legacy, was previously scored by Daft Punk, which is notable for being the only film soundtrack they created.
Announced last August, the dynamic duo of Reznor and Ross, now credited as Nine Inch Nails, will produce new original songs for the film. The duo is notable for the award-winning soundtracks for The Social Network, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Disney’s Soul, and HBO’s Watchmen. They recently scored the soundtrack for Challengers, which won Best Original Score at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards.
Directed by Joachim Rønning (Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), Tron: Ares flips the concept of humans entering the digital world by sending a program, Ares (Jared Leto), on a dangerous mission into the real world.
Joining Leto is franchise star Jeff Bridges, who returns as Kevin Flynn, Evan Peters (X-Men films), Greta Lee (Past Lives), Jodie Turner-Smith (After Yang), Cameron Monaghan (Gotham), Sarah Desjardins (The Night Agent), Hasan Minhaj (Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj), Arturo Castro (Narcos), and Gillian Anderson (The X-Files).
It’s still unclear whether Garrett Hedlund’s Sam Flynn and Olivia Wilde’s Quorra, from Tron: Legacy, will be returning for this film.
