“You’ve gotta have faith.” The long-lost, never-before-seen concert film capturing the late George Michael‘s 1988 ‘The Faith Tour’ will be released theatrically worldwide later this year, alongside its companion live album.
Newly restored and long considered lost, George Michael: The Faith Tour captures the Paris show at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy over two nights and includes footage from the European leg.
The tour was the “Careless Whisper” hitmaker’s first solo concert tour, in support of his best-selling debut record, Faith. The album featured the singles’ titular track, “One More Try,” “Father Figure,” and “Monkey.”
The album earned Michael the Album of the Year at the 31st Grammy Awards in 1989, producing four No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. To this day, he remains the only British male solo artist to achieve this from a single album.
Directed by Andy Morahan and David Austin, the theatrical release opens with a short film directed by photographer-filmmaker Mary McCartney, Paul McCartney’s daughter. The footage features previously unheard interview audio of Michael, photographs by fashion photographer Herb Ritts, and behind-the-scenes clips from the music video for “Faith.”
Alongside the film’s release, the live album The Faith Tour includes 18 tracks, featuring previously unreleased tour performances and songs from George Michael’s solo career and his time with Wham!
