BTS’ V threw the ceremonial pitch at the Los Angeles Dodgers home game at Dodger Stadium on August 26 (PH Time) during the team’s match against the Cincinnati Reds.
Dressed in a customized Dodgers jersey with the number 7 in honor of BTS’ seven members, V delivered a flawless pitch to Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto. ARMY didn’t miss the special moment, flocking to the stadium to support their beloved idol as the game was also livestreamed and shared across social media. The hype was off the charts when the news first broke that the K-pop idol would throw the ceremonial pitch.
StubHub, a ticket exchange and resale company, reported that fans had crashed the website trying to buy tickets. By August 18, ticket sales had increased five times overnight, and the Dodgers became the most-searched MLB team that week.
This isn’t the first time a K-pop idol has graced Dodger Stadium. Back in 2013, riding the popularity of his viral hit “Gangnam Style,” PSY threw the first pitch at Dodger Stadium, where he also met fellow South Korean native and formers Dodgers pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu. Girls’ Generation’s Tiffany also threw the first pitch the same year.
Most recently in 2024, Stray Kids’ Seungmin threw the ceremonial pitch at the MLB World Tour: Seoul Series 2024 game between the Dodgers and Team Korea in March. Around the same time, ATEEZ visited Dodger Stadium, where Yunho, a known baseball fan, threw the ceremonial first pitch before the Dodgers faced the New York Mets.
Perhaps V was the Dodgers’ lucky charm, as the team went on to beat the Reds 7-0, taking the top spot in the National League’s Western Division with a 75-57 record.
V and the rest of BTS are currently in Los Angeles, recording their highly anticipated comeback album after completing their mandatory military service in June.
