Andres Muhlach is stepping into the world of theater as he is set to follow in his father Aga Muhlach’s footsteps in playing the role of Adie in Bagets The Musical, the stage adaptation of the beloved 1984 coming-of-age Filipino film, Bagets.

Aga originally played the role in the 1984 film, which catapulted his career as a rising teen star at the time, along with fellow cast members and “bagets” William Martinez, J.C. Bonnin, Herbert Bautista, and Raymond Lauchengco.

“I understand how big Bagets was, and still is, in the Philippines. It’s such a huge part of many Filipino childhoods,” Andres shares. He adds that being part of the cast, let alone playing the role his father played, feels surreal.

Additionally, it was a proud dad moment for Aga. “When we first found out that I got his breakthrough portrayal, he was super happy for me,” he adds. “He was also excited to see how I’m going to approach the character.”

Bagets The Musical will be Andres’ first foray into theater, which he sees as an opportunity to carve his own path rather than following in his father’s footsteps. He previously starred in the hit Viva One series, Ang Mutya ng Section E, and the family sitcom, Da Pers Family, alongside his dad, mom Charlene, and sister Atasha.

Andres will be joined by Noel Comia Jr. and Tomas Rodriguez of ALAMAT as Gilbert, Ethan David of GAT and KD Estrada as Arnel, Milo Cruz and Migo Valid as Tonton, and Jeff Moses and Sam Shoaf as Topee, and Mico Hendrix Chua as Adie. Directed by Maryo J. de los Reyes, Bagets follows the titular teenage characters as they go through the trials and tribulations of their final year in high school, before they transition from boyhood to manhood.
