The Sandbox Collective’s staging of the production was made in collaboration with ABS-CBN, Star Magic, and Teatro Kapamilya. The show also marks the 10th anniversary of the theatre company. Critically-acclaimed actress and Fine Arts and English professor Missy Maramara is directing the production, with musical direction by Rony Fortich and choreography by Franco Ramos.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee premiered on Broadway in 2005, and went on to be nominated for six Tony Awards, and winning two of them. The original Broadway cast was also nominated for a Grammy. The musical tells the story of six spelling bee contestants — who, throughout the course of the spelling bee — share their background stories. The music and lyrics were written by William Finn, with the book written by Rachel Sheinkin. Notable cast members include Jesse Tyler Ferguson (of Modern Family). The musical is based on the improvisational play C-R-E-P-U-S-C-U-L-E, created by Rebecca Feldman.
