Ethel Cain has written an original song for Werwulf, the upcoming period folk horror film co-written and directed by Robert Eggers (The Lighthouse, Nosferatu).

Titled “Wynter Waxeth,” the six-minute track appears during the film’s closing credits and drops on November 13, 2026. It will also a second version of the song, with the shorter version, “Wynter Waxeth I,” appearing earlier in the soundtrack.

“‘An othir moone, an othir drede…’ […] Cain collaborated with composer Robin Carolan and filmmaker Robert Eggers to write and record the song for the film,” says the caption of the announcement.

The song marks the “American Teenager” singer’s first contribution and original song for a film. She isn’t distant from the world of film, however. Following the release of her acclaimed debut album, Preacher’s Daughter, she wrote “Famous Last Words (An Ode to Eaters),” inspired by the love story in the romantic horror film Bones and All, directed by Luca Guadagnino (Challengers, Call Me by Your Name).

Werwulf is set in early 14th century England and follows a mute medieval peasant who is cursed to transform into a violent, murderous werewolf with each full moon.

The film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Willem Dafoe, Lily-Rose Depp, Ralph Ineson, and Bodhi Rae Breathnach, among others.

As of this writing, no official theatrical release date in the Philippines has been announced. The film is slated for release sometime in January 2027, as its December 25, 2026, US release date coincides with the 2026 Metro Manila Film Festival window.

The release marks Cain’s first since her sophomore album, Willoughby Tucker, I’ll Always Love You, which arrived in August 2025. The album featured the singles “Nettles” and “Fuck Me Eyes.”
