SunKissed Lola are back with their brand-new single, “Edi Magalit Ka,” released through Ditto Music.
The new single arrives more than a year after the “Pasilyo” hitmakers released their EP, marking a new era for members Laura Lacbain (vocals), Alvin “Bino” Serito (vocals, guitar), Dan Ombao (vocals, guitar), Danj Quimson (bass), and Genson Viloria (drums).
The band opens a new chapter with a track that takes its title from a phrase often heard in everyday conversations, particularly among couples and friends.
“It’s a song about relationships,” Lacbain shares. “Hindi maiiwasan ang away sa relationship, pero hindi pa rin mawawala ang love. Susuyuin pa rin sa huli.” (Arguments are inevitable in a relationship, but the love never goes away. In the end, you’ll still find your way back to each other.)
For Serito, the track is a “loving anthem” that reminds us of the tender feeling about love, saying, “Even if you’re mad with your special someone, at the end of the day, they’re still your favorite person to come home to.”
Dating all the way back to 2021, the song’s origins began with a more prideful tone. However, over the years, the track revealed itself to be more emotionally open and gentler. Serito explains that at the heart of the track is the idea that love triumphs over ego, saying, “No one has to win. I will always choose the relationship over the argument.”
“Edi Magalit Ka” reflects more of the band’s relaxed and intentional side. Ombao shares that the song began as an acoustic piece before the arrangement came together naturally, with each member adding their own parts. “We all united to make it sound laid-back and simple, and we wanted to highlight the lyrics of the song,” Quimson adds.
Viloria shares that the song’s charm comes from how instantly familiar it feels, while Lacbain notes that it marks a fresh new direction for the band. “It’s the comeback of SunKissed Lola,” she says.
Now marking five years together as a band, SunKissed Lola enters a more mature and intentional era. “We want them to feel what we felt the first time we played the song,” Serito shares. “We hope it makes them smile, the way kung paano namin siya niyakap sa umpisa (we embraced it at the beginning).”
