Three years into their journey, YGIG find themselves in a very different place from where they started.

Formed under SBTown and debuted in November 2022 with the bouncy single “Shaba Shaba,” YGIG entered the P-pop scene as a seven-member girl group built around youthful energy and catchy pop hooks. Over the years, they have weathered lineup changes, explored different musical styles, and released music while figuring out what kind of artists they wanted to become. Through every transition, the group continued guided by the same sentiment reflected in their name, “You Go, I Go” — a commitment to grow together alongside their fans, WeGo. Now moving forward as a quartet composed of Vien, Hazelyn, Jewel, and Maeg, YGIG have spent the past few years learning, experimenting, and discovering themselves in real time.

Rather than resisting change, YGIG leaned into it. Emerging with a clearer sense of identity and direction, the four-member act grew increasingly confident in their voice. Tracks such as the hip-hop-infused “Chicka-chick-a” and R&B anthem “lyk that” marked important turning points, helping the members define the chic, fun, and refreshingly authentic sound they now consider their own. That openness to reinvention continues to shape YGIG today, with the release of their carefree, summer anthem, “Perfect Blue,” serving as the strongest example of where the group is three years after their debut.

It is because of their evolution that YGIG belong in Billboard Philippines’ P-pop Class of 2026. In this exclusive interview, the members reflect on the experiences that shaped them, the growth of their artistry, and how they hope to continue pushing their sound forward.

“We’ve gone through a very extensive existential crisis,” Jewel says with a laugh while discussing the group’s musical journey. “It gave us a lot of time to explore different types of music genres.”

Now entering the era of “Perfect Blue” and hinting at even more surprises to come, YGIG are proving that their evolution is far from over.
