American Football are officially returning with their fourth album this year.
The midwest emo icons announced the news on February 19, 2026 (Thursday), revealing that their new full-length record is set to come out this May 1, 2026 (Friday). The upcoming album is notably American Football’s fourth self-titled record, dubbed LP4, and is the long-awaited follow-up to LP3, which was released nearly seven years ago on March 22, 2019.
In support of the album’s release, American Football will be going on a four-month-long tour from May to August this year, where they will be holding shows across North America and Europe, alongside a recently announced performance at Fuji Rock Festival 2026 in Japan. These shows will notably see them have supporting performances from Mei Semones, Marconi Union, Ian Sweet, and Afternoon Bike Ride.
Formed in 1997, American Football released their self-titled debut album in 1999, which went on to become critically acclaimed and a cult classic that helped shape the midwest emo, post-rock, math rock genres. After amicably disbanding in 2000, the band reformed in 2014 and is now composed of the three founding members Mike Kinsella (vocals, guitars), Steve Holmes (guitars), Steve Lamos (drums, trumpet), alongside Mike’s cousin Nate Kinsella (bass, vocals, vibraphone).
