Songs for Selina, an independent drama about power, fame, and the harsh realities of the music industry, debuts in Philippine cinemas on March 18, 2026 — featuring a soundtrack co-written and produced by the Philippines’ King of R&B, Jay R.
The film also features an original score composed by Emmy Award-winning Filipina composer Denise Santos. Its Philippine release is presented by Jay R’s HomeWorkZ Entertainment and distributed by Black Cap Pictures.
Previously acquired by Amazon Prime US and Tubi for its North American release in 2025, the US-produced film stars an all-Filipino cast, including Mica Javier and Rachel Coates as Selina and Maya — musical soulmates and childhood friends whose bond is ultimately tested by the cutthroat music industry.
In an official statement, the R&B singer and CEO of HomeWorkZ Entertainment described the film as deeply personal, saying, “It draws from our own lived experiences, the stories of our peers, and the unspoken truths that quietly exist within the industry. As artists ourselves, we understand the fear of being marginalized or blacklisted for addressing uncomfortable truths, especially in systems where power is unevenly distributed. That vulnerability is precisely why we chose to tell this story through film and music.”
Meanwhile, the film’s soundtrack includes solo and duet performances by its lead stars. “The tracks were very much inspired by my own career, which made the songwriting process feel natural and intuitive,” adds Jay R. “Each song was carefully shaped to serve the story — tailoring the lyrics and emotion to the script so that the music actively moves the narrative forward.”
The “Bakit Pa Ba” singer also serves as one of the film’s executive producers. Drawing on his own experiences in the local music scene, he emphasized the importance of independent storytelling through film, saying, “Major studios and networks are not the only path. There is a space for us, and it’s time we collectively step into it—to strengthen, diversify, and elevate the state of our entertainment industry.”
The cast also features Jay R, Rachel Alejandro, Audie Gemora, Nicole Laurel, Leanne Mamonong, and Gian Magdangal.
