The trailer for the upcoming music biopic, Michael, centered on the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, has broken records as the most-viewed trailer of all time, racking up over 116.2 million views across multiple platforms within 24 hours of the teaser trailer’s release.
The Lionsgate-produced film released its highly anticipated teaser trailer on November 7 (PH Time), giving audiences their first look at singer-dancer Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s nephew, in his film debut portraying the music icon. It surpassed other trailers during its first 24 hours of release, including Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour with 96.1 million views, Bob Marley: One Love with 60.1 million, Bohemian Rhapsody with 57.6 million, and A Complete Unknown with 47.2 million views.
The trailer is set to a mashup of Jackson’s hits, including “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’,” “Beat It,” “Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough,” and “Billie Jean.” It gives audiences glimpses of the iconic Moonwalk dance move, creating the music videos for “Thriller” and “Bad,” as well as intimate behind-the-scenes moments with Jackson recording in the studio.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Equalizer), the film follows Jackson’s journey from his early days as part of his family’s music group, the Jackson 5, to his breakthrough success as a solo artist and his rise to global superstardom in the 1980s. It also stars Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, Miles Teller as attorney and manager John Branca, Kat Graham as Diana Ross, Jessica Sula as La Toya Jackson, and Juliano Krue Valdi as a young Michael, among others.
Originally slated for release in 2025, the film is now scheduled for release in Philippine cinemas on April 22, 2026.
