The 1975 have pulled “Human Too,” a track from their fifth studio album, Being Funny in a Foreign Language, from streaming platforms.
It’s been three years since the band released the album or any new material. With this change, the once 11-track album now loses its ninth track. The nearly four-minute song features the chorus: “Don’t you know that I’m a human too? You know that you’re a human too? And darlin’, that’s what humans do. So, tell me you’re a human.”
Frontman Matty Healy took to Reddit to explain the song’s removal, writing: “Hey! ‘Human Too’ was removed from the album so the album is more how I want it to be. Previous physical release obviously remain the same. I doubt the same will happen with any other records as I am pretty happy with them outside of ‘What should I say’ from Notes On A Conditional Form. So that may also be removed who knows. Sending love, Matty xxx.”
He also playfully replied to a fan who asked for “What Should I Say” to remain on Notes on a Conditional Form, saying, “Ok no worries x.”
This move further highlights how artists now have the power to make changes to albums on streaming services. “Human Too” can now only be heard on physical media — such as CD, vinyl, and cassette. This also reignites the conversation about how, more than ever, physical formats remain an integral part of the music industry.
The English pop-rock band hasn’t released any new material recently, but they did tick one off the bucket list — headlining Glastonbury Festival and performing on its Pyramid Stage back in June.
