When two powerful female icons of Filipino pop culture take over the Big Dome for two days of nonstop music and laughter, what do you get?

Over the past weekend (August 8 to 9), Regine Velasquez-Alcasid and Vice Ganda held their highly anticipated joint concert SuperDivas: The Concert. Composed of a long-winding list of pop favorites from modern chart-breakers to classic disco hits, the setlist was a departure from Regine’s typical power ballad sound. Throughout the four-hour duration of the pair’s joint concert, no single moment was left hanging in dead air. In contrast to the ballad-heavy repertoire that attendees may have anticipated (just as I had), SuperDivas lived up to its glamorous and upbeat title as a dance concert.

Even just upon entering the Araneta Coliseum itself, each concert-goer was greeted with a grand stage lit up with a mass of purple lights, and house music blasting throughout the venue. Additionally, at each seat awaited a lightstick for concert watchers to use throughout the night, which would eventually light up the entire venue with color in sync. Entering the space fully decked out in gowns and full glam makeup, fans flocked to the venue carrying congratulatory tarpaulins, LED signs, and other merchandise to show their full support.

On a similar wavelength, by no means did the production itself cut any corners. Each part of the four-hour concert earned its stunning applause and gasps, as elaborate sets and storytelling took the audience on a wild ride. Every costume change was equally meaningful as well, whether it be of the stars themselves or their backup dancers who would switch costumes along with them.

One example of this would be Vice Ganda’s monumental series of Lady Gaga covers. As the divas would take turns to host their own solo stages, Vice took the stage in her own rendition of Lady Gaga’s iconic Coachella 2025 performance. Dedicating her performance as a tribute to Gaga for being a role model to the queer people in the Philippines, each track — from “Born This Way” to “Edge of Glory” — was brought live to its fullest potential, with costume changes, chandeliers, and all the works.

For Vice Ganda, the show was more than a typical concert — it was also a grand gathering of her loved ones. With her husband, mother, and some of her closest industry friends and family scattered throughout the crowd, the concert became a means by which the pop culture icon could celebrate the fruit of her labour and the success of her career so far. Furthermore, Vice opened up about her anxieties about her career, and compared the sensation to being on the literal edge of her glory. Nevertheless, she thanked everyone for supporting her in her journey thus far and mentioned how it was because of all the people at home waiting to see her on the TV that she was motivated to work even harder.

For Regine, on the other hand, the show was treated equally as special as she took on many transformations throughout the night. From her grand floral dress at the beginning, the artist bloomed into a songbird towards the latter half of the show — lifting into the air as she sang Ariana Grande’s “Supernatural.” Furthermore, the power vocalist tried her hand at the “Golden” (from KPop Demon Hunters) challenge in real time, and not only did she reach the notoriously difficult notes, but she also accomplished such with astounding ease.

For her final segment on the show, Velasquez-Alcasid was joined on stage by some of Philippine pop’s most growingly prominent names: Dia Maté, Klarisse de Guzman (also known as Klang), and Star Magic’s fresh talents, the Mitra sisters. Sharing the stage in a powerful relay of performances from covers of The Pussydolls’ “Jai Ho” to K-pop icon JENNIE’s “like JENNIE,” the artists embodied the true meaning of the show’s title as a dance concert — leading everyone to rise from their seats and groove along.

As a whole, SuperDivas: The Concert was not your average concert by any means. Whether it was reacting to the jokes cracked on stage or singing along to beloved modern hits, members of the audience couldn’t stop their smiles, hold their laughter, or resist the urge to dance throughout the night — even if it meant sore muscles the day after. As they closed out with a blast of confetti after their ending number “SUPERDIVA,” each concert-goer went home that night with a sense of unending thrill and excitement.
