This marks the first-ever official release of Channel Orange on the vinyl format, following numerous bootleg and unofficial vinyl pressings that have been circulating across various record stores and websites worldwide. Though the album was released on an official CD format back in 2012, it was never released on vinyl due to the master rights of the record being owned by Def Jam Recordings at the time. No official updates have been stated with regards to who currently owns the masters of the album.
Ocean first signed on to Def Jam Recordings back in 2009, but planned his departure from the popular label following the fulfillment of his two-album contract with the label. With the release of both Channel Orange and his visual album Endless, the elusive musician successfully fulfilled his contract with Def Jam –– then dropped Blonde as a surprise just a day after the latter’s official release.
Ocean’s vinyl pressings for Blonde and Endless have been highly sought after by several vinyl collectors worldwide, given their highly valued nature. Blonde was reissued on vinyl in recent years, and despite a number of restocks on Ocean’s official website, it is currently sold out on the platform.
No further details were released with regard to what else was included within the package, though it’s estimated to ship within the next four to six weeks for order fulfillment. The Channel Orange vinyl record is priced at USD 85/PHP 4,300 per copy, and can be purchased here.
