Lil Uzi Vert teams up with Vans to showcase the Premium Old Skool, their beloved iconic sneaker, in a new campaign.
The “XO TOUR Llif3” rapper rocks a baggy streetwear style, with a mix of jewelry and spike-y hair, embodying the lifestyle the shoes are typical worn for. The campaign features him wearing the Premium Old Skool in Black/White and Old Skool in True White.
First introduced in 1977, the Old Skool, or Style 36, has long been a staple in streetwear and skate culture. Recognized for the iconic sidestripe and durable construction, the Old Skool is a timeless shoe that still is the go-to shoe for skate and fashion enthusiasts.
The rapper has strong ties with the skateboarding and punk influence culture, as someone who grew up in Philadelphia. In an interview with Complex, Uzi Vert shared his fashion inspirations, saying, “I wear anything I want.”
Additionally, he also cited the style icons and subcultures of the 80’s have shaped his fashion sense. As for his earliest memories with Vans, he first got a pair thanks to the American hip-hop group The Pack, who had a song released in 2007 named after the brand.
