The Billboard Philippines: Mainstage was a highly anticipated milestone for both the Billboard Philippines team and for Filipino music fans hoping to see their favorite OPM artists onstage. As it was our first anniversary celebration, we certainly had high hopes and expectations for its success and how it would be a show to remember, especially since one of the most popular acts in the country, BINI, was slated to make an appearance.
The Nation’s Girl Group was set to perform a medley of latest single “Cherry On Top” that segued into “Pantropiko,” as they had previously done at the Billboard Korea K-POWER 100 event last August. But as Stacey sang the first few lines of “Cherry On Top,” the audio track suddenly went out.
Fortunately, the members of BINI maintained their composure and continued to sing the song acapella and with choreography despite the absence of music, with their many devoted BLOOMs singing along until the audio track came back just before the “Pantropiko” segment of the medley. The group’s admirable professionalism throughout the number was truly commendable and outstanding. However, many of their fans went online to voice their concern about BINI’s performance, while still commending the group’s professionalism.
While unexpected issues and hiccups are bound to happen in any live music event, the show must go on. At Billboard Philippines: Mainstage, BINI were able to prevail over less than ideal circumstances and display how truly world class performers they are.
