Sarah Geronimo is now the first-ever honoree of the Billboard Philippines Women in Music Woman of the Year award.
The popstar royalty accepted the award during the Billboard Philippines Women in Music Awards held at the Samsung Hall, SM Aura, on March 22. Her husband and actor Matteo Guidicelli presented her the award.
In her acceptance speech, Sarah Geronimo hoped for an industry where artists continue to uplift and support each other. “Kung meron man akong hiling o pangarap para sa industriya o sa buong bansa natin, ito ay ang malakas na suporta at paniniwala at respeto sa kakayanan ng bawat isa,” she shares, adding that she hopes that the local music industry will be open to more diversity and versatility.
(“If there’s anything I hope or dream for the industry or our whole country is that we strengthen our support, belief, and respect for one another.”)
Earlier this month, Billboard Philippines honored Sarah Geronimo at the Billboard Women in Music Awards in Los Angeles, California, where she became the first homegrown Filipina to be recognized at the event. In her acceptance speech, she said, “I humbly accept this award on behalf of every amazing, excellent Filipina, Filipino artist back home and all over the world. I’d also like to take this moment to thank God first for the gift of music. Hindi ko po inisip, hindi ko po pinagarap na mararating ko po yung ganito, that I’ll be able to deliver a speech in front of an international audience.”
The multihyphenate is also featured on the cover of Billboard Philippines’ special Women in Music print issue, which also includes stories on the other honorees of this year such as Hitmaker Moira dela Torre, Powerhouse Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, Icon Pilita Corrales, Rising Stars BINI, and Rule Breaker Ena Mori. Copies of the issue are now available via Sarisari.
