If there’s any singular word that can describe Maki’s artistry as a whole, it would be “consistent.”

With each release, the artist consistently breaks into the charts, moves the hearts of his fans (the Zushis), and writes anthems that deeply resonate with listeners nationwide. Not only does he have a consistent effect on the Philippine soundscape, but the singer-songwriter has a consistent touch of authenticity in his artistry that reaches beyond his sound, in the visual elements of his branding as well.

That’s why it’s no surprise that Maki’s self-directed special concert launching his debut album Kolorcoaster felt like a handcrafted, first-person immersion into the artist’s creative world.

Taking place at the Araneta Coliseum last Friday (November 7, 2025), the show was his biggest concert yet, following his first solo concert in November last year at the New Frontier Theater. Furthermore, for his first-ever show at the Big Dome, Maki sold out the entire venue.

In celebration of the artist’s many milestones that night, fans showed up to the Araneta Coliseum dressed to the nines that night. While ‘Kolorcoaster: The Concert’ had no specific dress code, it was clear that everyone put intention into their outfits for the show — whether that be through custom-made costumes resembling Maki’s outfits in music videos or wearing outfits drenched in color from head to toe. Additionally, seen as active parts of the audience were some of the artist’s closest industry friends like TJ Monterde and KZ Tandingan, SB19’s Justin, BINI’s Gwen, Jhoanna, and Stacey, and many more.

Entering the venue alone, I could immediately feel the electricity in the air as the stage design revealed itself to be unlike the usual setup. Two large LED screens stood perpendicular to each other (one stretching across the stage and another extending above it along the ceiling) surrounded by a sea of lights. The intention behind the set design was clear during the show — the screens and lights would bathe the entire coliseum in vibrant color.

Before the show officially began, the massive screens played an introductory video styled like an anime opening. Here, a cartoon version of Maki sprints through his many eras under the Kolorcoaster experience, from “Namumula” to “Dilaw.” Emerging from below the stage, the hitmaker roused the audience with an array of his biggest hits to date: “Kahel Na Langit,” “Kailan?” “Kurba,” and “Bughaw.”

As a show centered around themes of gratitude towards his journey so far, the concert wouldn’t be complete without special appearances from those who have joined Maki on this path and inspired him. Joining the artist on stage for this grand celebration were Yeng Constantino, who sang “Cool Off,” Angela Ken, who teamed up with him for a live rendition of “Sikulo,” and BINI’s Maloi, who joined forces with him to sing his closing number, “Dilaw.”

As the show came to a close and the Kolorcoaster gradually slowed to a stop, the audience was left in awe of the shared experience they had just witnessed. Multi-colored confetti shaped like stars burst into the air, filling the venue with a final wave of color as Maki sang his closing notes. More than just an album showcase, ‘Kolorcoaster: The Concert’ offered a glimpse into Maki’s creative mind — a true multi-sensory experience that continues to resonate across social media days after its conclusion.
