YARA are back with a brand-new single entitled “Sabi Ko Na” — a “smooth, soul-infused anthem about love, deception, and the unnecessary baggage that comes with it.” It was released on April 2, 2025 (Wednesday) via Sony Music Entertainment.
Following the song’s release, a lyric video is also set to be released on the same day at 6:00 PM (PHT) on their YouTube channel. Meanwhile, an accompanying music video will be premiering on April 11 (Friday) at 6:00 PM (PHT).
The new track is described as fusing “Y2K nostalgia with modern hip-hop and R&B flavor,” as the girl group — composed of Gelou, Rocher, Christa, and Kim — “leans into urban music leans into urban music with an unmistakably Pinoy flair.” In a press statement, the quartet collectively noted that the 2000s R&B-inspired release is an expression of “raw emotions as they are — no deep words, no hidden meanings, just pure feeling,” as they desired “to highlight the unpleasant emotions, as they, too, are a part of us and shape who we are.”
Composed by award-winning producer, singer, and songwriter JRoa and produced by Yung Bawal, “Sabi Ko Na” serves as the group’s confident reimagining of their identity, notable for its “lush melodies, hook-laden beats, and Darkchild-style atmospherics.” Despite the group members themselves not being directly part of the songwriting itself, they note how inspiring it was to record the track with JRoa, especially the pep talk he gave them. “It really showed his passion and, of course, inspired us to keep pushing for what we love,” the members elaborated. “Every time he demonstrated how to sing a line, we couldn’t help but be in awe. We were fangirling the entire time, but we had to snap back to reality and focus on channeling that energy into a performance.”
“It’s not always easy to admit to yourself that someone special has fooled you, so we hope this song serves as both a reminder and a source of comfort — because, let’s be real, it’s a canon event,” comments YARA on the song’s themes. “Kidding aside, we just want to be part of someone’s moving-on journey, and hopefully, this song helps them heal in the end.”
Ultimately, this new single sees the group “taking creative direction into their own hands,” with YARA promising “more of this sound” in their future work.
“Sabi Ko Na” serves as YARA’s first release of 2025 and the follow-up to their previous single “Katawan Flow,” which came out on June 14, 2024.
