The Maine have just dropped a surprise single for their fans earlier today, titled “Touch.”

The new track sees the group embracing an eclectic blend of their alt-rock sound with a touch of pop-punk sprinkled in, resulting in a bold new direction for the band. Together with the track, the beloved alternative rock band made a playful announcement on their Instagram account for the coinciding release of a music video that sounds more akin to a podcast description, stating, “On another episode of ‘This Doesn’t Sound Like The Maine,’ we dive into the sonic drama of their new song ‘Touch.’ Seventeen years in, I too am unsure if TM has an actual sound, but all I know is that this is where our creative taste took us and to me it sounds like a rattlesnake in the trousers.”

“Touch” is the band’s latest release following their self-titled album, The Maine, which dropped last August 2023. A deluxe edition of the same record was released earlier this year, with four bonus tracks added in, including three collaborations with acts like Beach Weather, Valley, and MisterWives.

The Maine first came into prominence during the late 2000s by releasing a string of albums, Can’t Stop Won’t Stop and Black & White, that launched them as one of the biggest pop-punk acts of their generation. Since going independent in 2011, they’ve released several successful indie albums, including Pioneer (2011), Forever Halloween (2013), American Candy (2015), Lovely Little Lonely (2017), You Are OK (2019), and XOXO: From Love & Anxiety In Real Time (2021).

As part of their Sweet Sixteen World Tour, the American rock band is set to play in the Philippines for a two-night performance on September 27 and 28, 2024 at the SM City North EDSA Skydome — with both nights set to feature different set lists and performances. For Night 1, the band is set to perform a “Sweet 16” set, which encompasses tracks from their nine-album discography thus far. Then, for Night 2, they will be performing their 2008 debut album Can’t Stop Won’t Stop in its entirety.
