Over the weekend on October 3, folk-pop six-piece Sugarcane released their latest single, an emotionally-charged pop piece about yearning entitled “Please.” Written by members Cedric Angeles (vocals) and Froilan Bautista (drums), the track takes the perspective of an ex who mourns mistakes made and is yearning to return to what once was.

Following their January single “Tanging Ikaw,” this is Sugarcane’s second major musical release of the year, apart from a “Harana (serenade) Version” of the former.
For the year 2024, Billboard Philippines selected Sugarcane’s “Pagbigyan” as one of the 50 best music videos to come out of that year. “In ‘Pagbigyan,’ they delicately tackle the story of a deteriorating connection between two people, implied to be two parents whose painful relationship together has brought one of them to an emotional, heartbreaking crossroads,” writes Mayks Go. Composed of members Cedric Angeles (vocals, guitar), Carl Guerzon (vocals, bass), Ronamae Tiñola (flute), Frain Reyes (lead guitar), Luis Beato (keyboard), and Froilan Bautista (drums), Sugarcane made their official debut under Warner Music Philippines in 2019. Since then, the group has gone on to make popular chart-breaking tracks like “Leonora” and “Kung Maging Akin Ka.”
