Rex Orange County (also known as Alex O’Connor) has just announced his latest album, which he has named The Alexander Technique, due for release on September 6, 2024.

Taking to his official social media platforms to announce the record, the English singer-songwriter also shared the news of the release of two of the album’s first singles, its opening track “Alexander” and “Guitar Song.” O’Connor described the latter as his “favorite song of mine” and elaborated on how much he “loves the track.” “I’m extremely happy and proud to be sharing it with you today,” he affirms.

Accompanying the release of the songs are special music videos for both songs, with a Nick Walker-directed music video to “Alexander” that introduces the inspiration for the album’s title. In contrast, the video for “Guitar Song” features footage of Rex filmed by Alexandra Waespi at Decoy Studios in England during the recording process of the record.

Though it seems like the album may have been named after his first name, The Alexander Technique was named after a therapeutic practice for back pain, which still makes it an apt title for what has been described as O’Connor’s most raw album to date. Touted as his most confessional and “open-hearted” record, the album strips back the energetic elements of his jazzy bedroom pop sound to embrace a blend of R&B and indie-folk sounds that retain the orchestral lushness of his discography.

The Alexander Technique is produced by O’Connor himself, alongside collaborators like Teo Halm (Rosalía, SZA, Omar Apollo, and Beyoncé), Jim Reed, and James Blake who co-produced and is featured on the track “Look Me In The Eyes.” Check out the full track listing for the album below:

Billboard Philippines described the show as a “joyous and unforgettable night” wherein the certified hitmaker “made Manila his ‘Best Friend’ for one night.” O’Connor even called it the “best show he’s ever had.”
