It has been 20 years since RADWIMPS made their major label debut.
On February 6, 2025 (Thursday), the Japanese rock veterans kicked off the celebration of their 20th anniversary by revealing a new band photo as well as launching a special website to commemorate the milestone. In addition to this, the band is also set to release five of their earlier albums on vinyl for the very first time, with one title set to come out every month until September 2025.
The vinyl releases will begin on May 7 with 2013’s Batsu To Maru To Tsumi To, followed by 2011’s Zettaizetsumei on June 4, 2009’s Arutokoroni No Teiri on July 9, 2006’s RADWIMPS 4 -Okazu No Gohan on August 6, and 2006’s RADWIMPS 3 -Mujintou ni Motteikiwasureta Ichimai on September 3 — all in 2025.
Each album will be available as 2LP pressings and are priced at USD 60.00 each. Pre-orders are now open via RADWIMPS’ 20th anniversary website.
RADWIMPS was formed in 2001 and made their major label debut in 2005 with the release of the single “25kome No Senshokutai.” They have released a total of 13 albums so far, with the latest being the soundtrack to the Makoto Shinkai animé film Suzume, which they worked on with film music composer Kazuma Jinnouchi. Alongside Suzume, the band has also been responsible for the creation of the soundtrack of two of Shinkai’s other animé movies: Your Name and Weathering With You, with their music helping each title reach international acclaim, recognition, and popularity over the years.
RADWIMPS is currently composed of frontman Yojiro Noda, bassist Yusuke Takeda, and drummer Satoshi Yamaguchi, who has been on hiatus since 2015. Former lead guitarist and original member Akira Kuwahara departed from the group last October 2024, with the band stating that in the past 20 years, “their thoughts and values have changed,” which has led them to the decision to part ways.
The band held their first ever Manila concert last May 1, 2024 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City. In our review of the fully sold-out show, Billboard Philippines described it as “definite proof as to why they’re internationally renowned by countless as one of the best modern bands to shine forth from Japan.”
