What to Expect
Alongside performances from these handpicked artists, AXEAN Festival 2025 is also set to offer a wide range of activities for those in attendance.
The first of these is a music conference segment that will include “curated panel discussions, business pitching sessions, and structured speed meetings between delegates and artists,” with the goal of “impactful conversations and long-term partnerships.”
The event will also feature a songwriting camp, which is a “a four-day initiative inviting select showcasing artists, producers, and songwriters to co-create in an intimate, cross-cultural setting.” The camp marks its second year this 2025, with its 2024 iteration having successfully resulted in 20 original songs from the artists who participated.
Lastly, a new program called SEA Club Showcase is also being introduced, which is a “a live music platform dedicated to regional electronic subcultures such as Indonesian funkot or dangdut, Vietnamese vinahouse, Singaporean/Malaysian manyao, and Filipino budots.” It aims to showcase “Southeast Asia’s burgeoning rave, dance, and electronic culture,” honoring “the unique grassroots genres that are redefining the international club scene with distinctly local flair.”
“AXEAN Festival has always been a labor of love for all of us co-founders — driven by passion, run pro bono, and built with bootstrapped resources,” shared Muenprasertdee in another press statement, noting how the AXEAN team has “consistently pushed the limits of what’s possible with limited funding,” with “the positive impact [they’ve] made so far” being a “testament to that dedication.”
First held in 2020 as a virtual music showcase, AXEAN Festival (formerly, ASEAN Music Showcase Festival or AMS) became a major in-person event in 2022. Since then, the event has become an “internationally recognized platform that features musical talents from Southeast Asia and beyond whilst providing a place for artists and music industry professionals from around the world to connect through genuine face-to-face networking opportunities.” During its 2023 edition in Singapore, 50 artists took part, with 39 of these acts coming from all ASEAN countries. They were joined 74 international delegates from 16 countries, alongside a total of 7,700 attendees.
