Indonesian girl group no na are back with the new single “honk!,” released under 88rising.
Ahead of the track’s release, teasers for both the song and its music video featured references to the viral 2016 Indonesian trend “Om Telolet Om.” The phrase translates to, “Sir, honk the horn, sir!”
The meme went viral after a video featuring young Indonesian kids showed them getting excited as a bus driver honked a modified horn while the bus passed by. Soon after, it rose to popularity as more videos emerged showing crowds holding pieces of paper while shouting the phrase.
The song follows the release of the group’s earlier singles this year, which highlight Indonesian culture on the global music scene. They first released “work,” which the group described as an empowering anthem about working hard and living up to your potential to achieve your dreams, as they shared with Billboard Philippines in an interview published in March.
The group followed it with “rollerblade,” an upbeat track that celebrates freedom and riding the waves of life.
