This Friday (July 18, 2025), Cebu-hailing alternative rock quintet monopolice are set to release their debut album entitled El Elefante. The album was teased by the band’s four pre-release singles that have been dropping since last year.

In an official press release, monopolice vocalist and primary songwriter Miguel Granada shares, “The hardest part is the logistics of getting a group of five members together, all of whom have full-time jobs. Once we’re all in the same room, it’s pretty easy. The chemistry in the band is pretty undeniable. Also, our individual talents fit like puzzle pieces, and we’ve learned to trust that from the start.”

On that note, the album is said to be dedicated to Mali, the elephant in Manila Zoo that passed away in 2023. Miguel adds, “We like to think that it’s the same themes of isolation that we tackle in the album. But that’s why we decided on El Elefante. We thought it sounded better in Spanish, too.”

This follows the premiere of the five-piece’s latest pre-release single “Hunter,” which made its debut on July 4, 2025.

Composed of members Miguel Lim (vocals), Karl Lucente (guitars), Amiel Cortes (guitars), Jessiree Geverola (bass), and Peter Mascariñas (drums) and signed under Melt Records, monopolice draws influence from 1990s and 2000s rock, art-rock, and indie rock.
