With her new single, Miley Cyrus wants us to remember that sometimes the “End of the World” isn’t as miserable as we’d think.

The pop superstar’s latest track explores themes of living life to its full potential despite the problems that surround us, even with the possibility of the world’s impending demise. Its 80s-inspired sound channels a little Fleetwood Mac here and there, yet Cyrus’s distinct vocals give it the carefree charm that begs for repeat listens. The song is as emotional as it is sensual –– giving it a cinematic quality that’s akin to what she’s promised for her forthcoming album.

To accompany the single’s release, Cyrus released an old-school music video featuring smoky visuals and her rockstar energy. It was directed by Jacob Bixenman, Brendan Walter, and the pop star herself. Check it out in its entirety below:

Cyrus’ “End of the World” serves as the lead single for her upcoming 9th studio album, Something Beautiful. It’s the third track to be released off the record, following the series of surprise drops to the album’s set of opening tracks, “Prelude” and “Something Beautiful.” Both songs marked a significant departure from previous albums, as they each featured a glam-rock sound with bits and pieces of jazz and R&B spread throughout.

The album is scheduled to be released this May 30, 2025, and will comprise thirteen original tracks, featuring executive production from Shawn Everett and Cyrus herself. It is set to serve as the highly anticipated follow-up to 2023’s Endless Summer Vacation, which spawned the chart-topping hit single “Flowers.” The album was nominated for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, whilst “Flowers” won Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.
