Fresh off the release of his latest single, MATÉO has dropped a surprise holiday track with “Sana Ngayong Pasko.”
Penned by Jimmy Borja, the newly released track showcases the rising balladeer’s baritone vocals softly crooning to a heartfelt narrative about wishing to spend Christmas with a distant lover. “Sana ngayong Pasko, ay maalala mo pa rin ako. Hinahanap-hanap pag-ibig mo, at kahit wala ka na, nangangarap at umaasa pa rin ako,” he sings in the track’s chorus — conveying a sense of yearning that feels right at home with several listeners over the holiday season.
As his third release under ABYSS Company, “Sana Ngayong Pasko” comes just a week after the release of his new track “POREBER,” which marked his first musical release to be recorded with a full-band setup. “’Poreber’ is about holding on to the promise of forever with the person you love, but instead of talking about it in a grand scale, it’s talked about in the everyday moments you have together that make up everlasting love,” MATÉO SAID of the track in an official press statement. “’Lalim’ is for goodnight — ‘Poreber’ is for good morning,” he shared.
He also dropped an accompanying music video for “POREBER,” which was directed by Jonathan Tal Placido and produced by Toothless Studios. Check it out in its entirety below:
Earlier this year, MATÉO sat down for an exclusive interview with Billboard Philippines, wherein he opened up about the long-winded journey that led him to ABYSS Company, and how his experiences working in the A&R side of the industry have affected his debut as an artist. “I’d say I’m taking it step by step. I already have a bunch of materials readily available, actually, so I could compile an EP or I could put together an album,” he said, teasing the release of future music.
“But syempre ako (of course for me), I’d like to do it step by step lang din. Para at least hindi rin mambigla (Just so that I don’t shock or overwhelm myself), and at the same time, it’s focusing on the passion of the project through these singles I’ve been releasing,” he continued.
