Marcus Adoro, the lead guitarist of the iconic Filipino rock band Eraserheads, was just announced to be stepping away from any of the band’s upcoming projects.
The announcement was shared by the group’s frontman, Ely Buendia, who posted a statement acknowledging the recent wave of concerns surrounding Adoro’s involvement with the band, given the newly unveiled sexual abuse allegations against him. “We acknowledge the recent allegations that have surfaced online. As proponents of justice, we unequivocally condemn all criminal acts and stand against abuse in any form. Above all, we seek the truth,” said Buendia in his statement.
It was also mentioned that Adoro would be making “time to address the matter at hand”, as the rest of the band members will continue to “move forward with humility and deep respect for the truth and social responsibility,” per Buendia’s penned post. Read the full statement in its entirety below:
“We acknowledge the recent allegations that have surfaced online. As proponents of justice, we unequivocally condemn all criminal acts and stand against abuse of any form. Above all, we seek the truth.
As Marcus makes time to address the matter at hand, he will be stepping back from the upcoming project. We move forward with humility and deep respect for the truth and social responsibility.”
The breaking news comes off the heels of an anonymous Reddit post that was shared late in March of this year, which detailed the author’s experience of being raped by Adoro back when they were in high school, alongside an enumeration of his history of sexual abuse against other women –– including his own daughter, singer-songwriter Syd Hartha. Back in 2019, the indie musician opened up about her experiences suffering from the abuse her father subjected her to, even posting screenshots of their conversation online.
Over the past few months, the band has reunited once more for a string of major projects –– which include the recently released documentary, Eraserheads: Combo On The Run, and the highly anticipated Eraserheads: Electric Fun Music Festival, an event that is set to unite veteran and emerging OPM artists for a special set of performances this May 31, 2025.
As of the time of writing, Adoro has yet to release an official comment or statement surrounding his withdrawal from the Eraserheads’ upcoming projects. Make sure to stay tuned at this space for more updates on the issue.
