Broadway icon Lea Salonga has reached a new milestone in her career, joining the Board of Trustees of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
Alongside the Tony Award-winning actress, the board has also welcomed six other industry leaders: Grammy-winning and Tony-nominated songwriter and performer Sara Bareilles; Jeff T. Daniel, president of The Shubert Organization; Andrew Flatt, managing director of Disney Theatrical Group; Tony- and Grammy-winning actor J. Harrison Ghee; Tony-nominated actor Joshua Henry; John Johnson, producer and co-founder of Wagner Johnson Productions; and Greg Nobile, producer and CEO of Seaview Productions.
On Instagram, Executive Director Danny Whitman praised the remarkable contributions of the community, saying: “This extraordinary group of artists, industry leaders, and theatrical visionaries have long been shaping our industry and uplifting Broadway Cares through their passion and dedication.”
Robert E. Wankel, president of the Board of Trustees and chairman and CEO of The Shubert Organization, notes that “their talent and diverse perspectives will be invaluable as we continue to grow Broadway Cares’ fundraising and grantmaking efforts.”
In July, she was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame as part of the Class of 2025-2026. She became the first Filipina and the fourth overall to be honored.
Founded in 1988, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is a nonprofit organization within the American theater community that raises funds and awareness for people affected by HIV/AIDS and other critical illnesses in the performing arts. Since its formation, it has raised over USD 300 million through initiatives such as benefit performances, merchandise sales, and partnerships with artists.
