If you’ve been lurking around the corners of TikTok over these past few days, then you’ve probably encountered a bizarre, yet oddly familiar, figure named Mr. Fantasy. The comedic, buck-toothed, bob-wearing musician speaks with a Kiwi accent and looks eerily similar to Riverdale‘s very own Archie Andrews, better known as actor-musician KJ Apa. But upon scrolling down further on his account, it’s undeniably Apa himself who is bringing Mr. Fantasy to life.

Just yesterday, Apa (otherwise known as Mr. Fantasy) began promoting his first single of the same name, alongside a music video that is split into two parts, posted on his Mr. Fantasy page on TikTok. Though the music video features comedic elements (such as Mr. Fantasy dancing oddly around Venice Beach in Los Angeles, among other things), the track itself is quite the earworm, featuring Apa’s impressive vocals paired with a funky guitar riff and twinkling synth beats.

Mr. Fantasy’s eponymous debut single was produced by Florian Gouello and composed and penned by Apa as Mr. Fantasy himself. Apa’s viral musical alter-ego has already accumulated nearly 400,000 followers on TikTok alone, despite only launching his account on the platform in the last few weeks of August. His bizarre and equally humorous skits have garnered attention from avid fans of the actor, multiple brands, and even his real-life acquaintances, such as Joe Jonas and Riverdale co-star Lili Reinhart, who even commented on his posts publicly.

Apa’s musical alter-ego of Mr. Fantasy may have come out of the blue, though his skills as a musician and singer have definitely been public knowledge. During the seven-season run of Riverdale on Netflix and the CW network, Apa performed numerous covers and original songs for the hit television show’s soundtrack, with many of his tracks racking up tens of millions of streams on Spotify alone. He also released his solo debut album, titled Clocks, back in 2021, which saw him embrace an indie folk-rock set of soundscapes that vary significantly from his music as Mr. Fantasy.

Though Apa has yet to post (or even acknowledge) his alter ego on his official social media, he was recently promoting his latest romantic-comedy film, The Map That Leads To You, which co-stars Madelyn Cline (Outer Banks, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, I Know What You Did Last Summer), and was recently released on Amazon Prime earlier this August 20, 2025.
