The Ridleys‘ bassist Joric Canlas has just shared the news of his departure from the beloved indie band.
In a newly shared vlog by the alternative-folk band, Canlas and the rest of the band — comprised of lead singer Benny Manaligod (vocalist), Jan De Vera (lead guitarist), and Bryant Ayes (drummer) — shared the surprise news to their fans. An excerpt from their statement reads, “On our ninth anniversary, we have the privilege of having a good sendoff for Joric as he sets out to pursue his own dreams. Yes, Joric is leaving the band. But he will always, always be a part of The Ridleys’ story.”
“Thank you for the long nine years,” Canlas shared in the newly posted video. “Actually, it wasn’t too long. It was really quick. But The Ridleys? This is just the start. If you’re going to look at it, even if it’s been long, from here towards the next few years — there’s so much to achieve and there’s still so much you can do,” he tells his fellow members. “And it doesn’t end with me leaving. Not at all,” the bassist concludes.

Canlas’ departure from The Ridleys is set to be honored with a farewell gig soon, with more details set to be released in the near future. Make sure to stay tuned at this space and the band’s official social media platforms for more updates with regards to the send-off show.
The Ridleys recently celebrated their ninth anniversary as a group, and commemorated their longevity in the music scene with a two-day set of sold-out concerts at the Music Museum. They also released their latest album, All These and More, which dropped on all streaming and digital platforms last August 2024. The album features the hit single “Be With You” and has garnered acclaim for its emotional depth, which has further solidified The Ridleys’ reputation as compelling storytellers of modern romance.
While this might be the end for Joric Canlas and his time with The Ridleys, the bassist is currently keeping himself busy with his duties as part of Over October –– as he and his fellow members, Josh Buizon, Joshua Caleb Lua, Anton Rodriguez, and Janessa Geronimo had recently posted photos from the Open Heaven Recording Studio in Baguio earlier today.
