The Philippines’ King of R&B Jay R has teamed up with Los Angeles-based pop artist Shanice for a new single, entitled “Never Ever.” The collaboration track was released on August 22, 2025 (Friday) via Hitmakers Entertainment and Symphonic Asia.
Described as a “sophisticated R&B jam” that “tackles a kind of love that stays and sticks even when the pieces don’t quite fit,” the single is notable for its “suave and soulful vocals that cut through a bed of lush strings, slow-burning grooves, and hypnotic instrumentation. “Shanice wrote the song and presented it already perfect,” shares Jay R in a press statement. “I just added a few Tagalog lyrics to better fit our market. She’s incredibly talented, and we share a natural chemistry on stage.”
Adding to this, Shanice agrees, notably highlighting Jay R’s commitment to the collaborative process. “Working with Jay R is so cool! The creative process was natural and easy. He’s so talented and experienced, and I learned so much from him. ‘Never Ever’ has been one of the highlights of my journey so far.”
Notably, “Never Ever” was produced and co-written by Grammy-nominated producer Mark Feist (Destiny’s Child, The Spice Girls, Celine Dion), who comments in a press statement, “‘Never Ever’ is about love and wanting it forever. “It’s a tale as old as time, and something all people can relate to, whether it manifests in the form of love, loss, or longing.”
Recording of the collaboration single was held in Los Angeles and Manila, with the two artists notably “laying their vocals in separate studios.” Additionally, Feist made use of live instrumentation, enlisting the help of guitarist Erick Walls (Usher, Beyoncé, Michael Jackson) and bassist Courtney Leonard (Chris Brown, Beyoncé).
“Once the lyrics were complete and Jay R added his Tagalog parts, the song kind of produced itself,” adds Feist. ““I heard all of these amazing string parts in my head, wrote them down and built the track around that lush foundation. This is one of the productions that I’m most proud of—not only for the music, but the way it brought together incredible talent from two continents into one seamless piece of art.”
For Jay R, “Never Ever” serves as the follow-up to his previous single “Tunay,” which came out on July 25, 2025. Meanwhile, for Shanice, it follows her song “Green,” which was released on June 13, 2025.
