Grammy-winning artist James Taylor is gearing up for a triumphant return to Manila –– marking a significant comeback six years after the cancellation of his 2017 concert in the Philippines.
The acclaimed singer-songwriter, celebrated for timeless classics such as “Your Smiling Face,” “You’ve Got a Friend,” “Fire and Rain,” and “How Sweet It Is,” is set to grace the stage at the Mall of Asia Arena on April 8, 2024, accompanied by his All-Star Band.
Originally slated for a 2017 performance, Taylor regretfully withdrew from the concert a year prior, expressing his dissent against the anti-drug campaign led by the Duterte administration in a post shared on his official social media pages.
“I’ve been eagerly looking forward to playing for my Philippine audience ever since we added Manila to our tour of the Pacific this coming February. So it saddens me to cancel our concert there. I don’t think of my music as being particularly political, but sometimes one is called upon to make a political stand,” he shared at the time.
With a career spanning decades, Taylor boasts over 100 million albums sold worldwide, multiple Grammy Awards, and prestigious inductions into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Among the iconic tunes that have resonated with audiences globally are “Country Road,” “Something in the Way She Moves,” “Shower the People,” and “Carolina In My Mind.” Taylor is also the soulful voice behind chart-toppers like “Sweet Baby James,” “Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight,” “Long Ago and Far Away,” and an array of other beloved classics.
